A-Level Graphics Communication Project

Project Category:

Advertising & Branding

Software Used:

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Illustrator (iPad App)

Project:

This project required me to create artworks and signage concepts for my own hypothetical exhibition held at The Tate Modern. I chose AfroFurturism as my theme to add a more personal and culturally relatable aspect. I began with taking photos of myself and family members in traditional African prints, then went to edit them in photoshop. Using the marquee tool I cut around our faces – this allowed me to replace the faces with the desired background for example the image of a galaxy I made by using different coloured brush strokes and a noise filter to recreate the effect of stars. Using Adobe Illustrator I drew on top of the photos I took to create a more cartoon-like effect then went on to draw planets revolving around my head.

Once the artwork was completed I was tasked with creating mock-ups of items that would be sold at the gift shops and posters to advertise the exhibition. When making these, I went to visit The Tate Modern as I wanted it to look as authentic and as realistic as possible. To achieve this I found the typeface that the Tate uses for their posters and their logo to apply to their posters and researched the typical layout structure. I then went on to use photoshop to create visuals of the posters situated in real-life situations.
